Tempyo Culture continuing even today

This is one of the 'Kokubunji' temples built nationwide in the 13th year of Tempyo (741 A.D.) by decree of the Emperor Shomu. The remains of the temporary palace of Emperor Go-Daigo, who waw exiled to Oki during the Genko War (1331-1333), still stand today. On April 21st every year is the Oki Kokubunji Renge-e-mai (Kabuki Dance) is held, telling of the glory of Tempyo culture even today.
