Kuroshima Island Lookout [Okinoshimacho]
A letter from the Earth standing before your eyes
The island of Kuroshima, floating out on the east coast of Dogo, was formed from basalt from an eruption 3.3 million years ago. The basalt, which has developed into columnar joints, contains olive-colored peridot and green-black pyroxenite. Minerals which have been incorporated into a rising volcanic melt are referred to as mantle xenoliths.
