Oki Shrine [Amacho]
The shrine dedicated to Emperor Gotoba, beloved by the islanders
This shrine was built in the unique architectural style known as "Oki-zukuri" to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the death of Emperor Gotoba. Around the shrine there is an exhibition of the Tanka poetry written by Emperor Gotoba, and many people come here in the silence of night when the shrine is surrounded in the light of bamboo lanterns. There are about 250 cherry trees on the shrine grounds, making it a well-known place for cherry blossoms.
